I was in high school the first time I had the privilege of voting for my Dad, and I’ve campaigned for him in Johnston County and almost every county in North Carolina during his time in public service. During the 10 years since Dad last held public office, it has been nice watching him settle into his passions: his farm (he is the largest producer of SimAngus bulls in Johnston County), his family, and his business. Over the past decade Dad received numerous calls asking him to consider running for office or engaging in a campaign. Each time he would consider but then pass on the opportunity. However, when the opportunity came for him to run for the District 1 seat on the Johnston County Board of Commissioners this year, I could tell that this time it was different.
